A practical search and AI readiness checklist for your website

Start with your priority pages. Mark each check as verified, needs work or not tested, and attach evidence rather than relying on a completion tick.

The short answer

Start with accessible, indexable pages, then consistent business information, clear service content, internal links and appropriate structured data. Complete the work with webmaster-tool checks and a documented baseline. A submitted sitemap alone does not prove indexing.

1. Access and the preferred URL

Open the page without signing in and check the final response. Review HTTP, www and old-URL redirects to the chosen version. Hosting rules should not prevent intended visitors or search crawlers from accessing public content.

Give each public page an appropriate canonical URL. Connect Arabic and English alternatives when they genuinely correspond. Keep private request pages and content not intended for indexing out of the public sitemap.

2. Indexing eligibility and webmaster tools

Review robots.txt, the robots meta tag and X-Robots-Tag headers, then compare the sitemap with preferred public URLs. Inspect representative live URLs in Google Search Console and submit the sitemap in Bing Webmaster Tools when account access is available.

Distinguish discovery, crawling and indexing. IndexNow notifies participating engines of URL changes; an accepted response does not prove the URL appears in results.

3. Business identity and service clarity

Check the official and trading names, service area and contact information across the about page, footer and service pages. Do not invent branches, accounts or credentials. Each service should explain its audience, deliverables, boundaries and enquiry process.

Answer the main question briefly before adding detail. Show a fixed price when there is one, or explain which scope decisions determine the quotation.

4. Content, links and structured data

Use one clear main heading and make core information available as readable text. Add useful image descriptions and natural links between related services, guides and examples. Avoid near-identical location pages with only the city name changed.

Describe the organisation, service and breadcrumbs using suitable Schema.org types that match visible facts. Technically valid markup does not establish eligibility for a particular search appearance.

5. Crawlers and performance

Separate search access from training decisions. OpenAI provides independent controls for OAI-SearchBot and GPTBot; one decision should not be assumed to cover every use. Check the firewall too: robots.txt permission alone does not override hosting restrictions.

Review mobile loading, interaction, layout stability, image and video size, and fonts. Use real-visit data when available alongside a documented lab test. One automated score is not a guarantee of every visitor’s experience.

6. A repeatable observation record

Choose commercial and brand questions in Arabic and English. Record the exact text, platform, date, language and sign-in state, then distinguish a brand mention from a valid link citation. Preserve the original observation where the platform permits it.

Compare implementation, indexing, appearances and referrals separately. Mark an unavailable platform as not tested, not zero. Read the SEO, AEO and GEO guide before selecting a monitoring scope.
